I first tried Kinder Bueno chocolate bars at the pottery studio where I spend an inordinate amount of time these days. The owner keeps a well-stocked candy jar for when you need a break from your clay creations, and one day it was filled with Kinder Bueno Minis (the bite-sized version of the classic Kinder Bueno). They have everything I love: A very thin, crispy wafer shell and a creamy hazelnut center, all enrobed in milk chocolate with a dark chocolate drizzle on top. I was hooked after the first taste. So when I saw Kinder Bueno Cones at the grocery store, I could already tell the frozen version would be my new go-to summer treat.
I’ve tried other candy bar-turned-ice cream novelties, and most don’t quite knock my socks off. But that’s not the case with Kinder Bueno Cones in all their creamy, hazelnutty glory. Now I’m the biggest Kinder Bueno Cones fan, which is why it’s a Taste of Home Award winner.

These Ice Cream Cones Taste Just Like the Candy Bar
Surprisingly, Kinder Bueno is neither German (kinder means “children” in German) nor Spanish (bueno means “good” in Spanish). Instead, the candy is made by the same Italian brand that created Nutella, that delicious chocolate-hazelnut spread, and Ferrero Rocher, those fancy-looking, gold-wrapped balls of chocolate and hazelnut.
Just like the candy version, Kinder Bueno Cones combine layers of chocolate and hazelnut flavors. I love the way they capture the candy’s essence in every bite. The main player—technically not ice cream but a frozen dairy dessert—has a subtle hazelnut flavor that’s creamy with just enough sweet, nutty flavor.
At the very top is a frozen disc of hazelnut spread sprinkled with a few chocolate crunchies. You can crack into it right away, but my advice is to wait a few minutes because it’s best when a little soft. Tucked inside the ice cream is a smooth hazelnut core, almost like a surprise treat within a treat.
It all sits in a crispy, wafer-like cone that mimics the one you find in the candy. It’s thinner than a sugar cone, but just as delightful to eat. The bonus: The little nugget of milk chocolate at the bottom tip of the cone that keeps the creamy dessert from oozing out as it melts. Not that it has that much time to melt; I can guarantee your cone will be gone before you can say “hazelnut!”
Like the candy, I don’t find the cones overly sweet, and they’re just the right size, so I don’t feel weighed down after eating one. I wonder if I would’ve liked these as a kid when the ice cream truck came around, or if they’re more for grown-up me. Either way, they’re absolutely perfect for summer.
