The Lola Blanket might be my all-time favorite luxury blanket. The texture is next-level soft, almost like bunny fur or a giant luxury stuffed animal. (Hello, Jellycat!)

The Original Lola is available in four sizes: baby, medium, large and the Lola XL. I currently own the baby and XL sizes. The baby blanket is great for family trips and travel. It measures 30×36 inches and weighs just two pounds, making it easy to pack and simple to toss in the wash when needed. Meanwhile, the Lola XL remains my family’s go-to for movie nights. All three of us can snuggle beneath its 80×90 inch footprint with plenty of room to spare—it’s magical!

We first tested the Cozy Earth Cuddle Blanket in 2023. And last year, after another round of testing, we named the luxury blanket one of the best home decor products you can buy.

Deputy Editor Katie Bandurski snagged the large faux fur throw and was floored by how soft the fabric was. “I joked to my husband that it felt like chinchilla fur,” she says.

If you’re looking to gift (or get) pure luxury in blanket form, this one’s hard to beat. “I have yet to encounter another comparable blanket on the market that is equally high-quality and cozy,” says Katie. “It’s impossibly warm and soft. I love cocooning underneath it on extra-chilly days.”

Like many faux fur and luxury throws, cleaning this one may require extra care. Cozy Earth recommends cold washing it alone and then line drying or air drying it without heat.

“Unfortunately, I don’t see this large blanket fitting in many home washing machines,” says Katie. However, when former Taste of Home editor Madi Koetting was gifted the medium Cozy Earth blanket in 2023, she ran hers through the washing machine and laid it out to dry with zero issues.

Made entirely of Mongolian cashmere, the throw has a super-soft, slightly felted texture that cashmere lovers obsess over. And when draped over a sofa or accent chair, it looks like it belongs in a magazine spread. “It’s absolutely gorgeous in person,” says Shopping Editor Emily Way. “I love the fringe on the two shorter sides, which gives the throw an effortlessly luxe look.”

Like most luxury pieces, it requires a little more care when cleaning. Handwashing with cold water and a neutral soap (or even baby shampoo) is recommended. Rinse gently—no rubbing—then lay it flat to dry at room temperature and out of direct sunlight. Dry-cleaning is also an option; just make sure to request a delicate detergent to keep the cashmere looking its best.

“In search of an accessory to dress up my white couch and function as an emotional support blanket, I scooped up this knit throw from Quince,” says tester Madi. “And let me tell you, this is the queen of all throw blankets—truly one of the best throw blankets out there.”

Our tests prove this blanket holds up, too. “It has never once pilled, frayed or fallen apart despite my puppy constantly scratching and chewing on it,” she says. “The only deterioration I’ve experienced is some stragglers on the ends, but that is 100% attributed to my dog, who loves to chew on details like weaving or tassels.”

Though Quince recommends dry cleaning, Madi found it held up well in her washing machine on a cold, gentle cycle. She washed it about once a month over the initial nine-month testing period.

You’ve probably seen designs from Rifle Paper Co. before. The brand is known for its beautiful homewares and stationery. When we spotted this throw blanket, we immediately thought of it as a little piece of art. Spoiler alert: it looks just as stunning in person as it does online.

Each Rifle Paper woven blanket is made-to-order in North Carolina. Tester Katie chose the Country Farm pattern, featuring florals and charming farm animal motifs.

“Right away, I could tell the colors were beautifully vibrant, and the pattern was intricate. It reminded me of the colorful throw my mom draped across the couch when I was growing up in the 90s,” Katie says. “I was mesmerized looking at all the intricacies. It added a much-needed pop of color to my neutral-colored couch.”

Our tester found the 100% cotton fabric breathable and just weighted enough to keep her cozy, a perfect in-between option for warmer months. The fringe border adds a touch of extra charm and character.

The brand recommends hand- or machine-washing the blanket separately in cold water on a delicate cycle with mild detergent. No bleach. Line dry or machine-dry on a cool cycle only.

“These instructions seem very simple, and, given the weight of this throw, I’m not worried at all about tossing it in my machine,” Katie says. “I think this luxe blanket is a steal. It’s high-quality, made in the U.S., made of 100% cotton and absolutely stunning. It’s currently available in 10 patterns.”

Popular blanket brand Barefoot Dreams makes some of the most coveted plush throw blankets on the market.

Our tester calls the oversized throw just the right weight for snuggling. “It’s in between a weighted blanket and a loose-weave throw,” tester Caroline Lubinsky says. During colder months, she keeps it on her bed and during the summer, it’s more for snuggles.

“This blanket didn’t pill, even with two little dogs joining in on snuggle time,” adds Caroline. “This is a quality blanket, so I handled it with care. I desperately wanted it to stay soft and fluffy, so I washed it in cold water on the delicate cycle as directed. I let it air dry and used the fluff cycle (no heat) for a few minutes. I’m happy to confirm the blanket is still as soft as day one with no shrinkage—and that’s without using fabric softener or dryer sheets.”

After several months of use, Caroline shares that this throw still sees a lot of snuggling with pups. “It is still a very soft, snuggly throw that’s very warm,” she notes. “But it does have a few random, tiny snags and general wear, likely due to the pet usage.”

“My favorite aspect of the blanket is its reversible, machine-washable cover. Apart from ensuring that the inner blanket stays nice and clean, the cover includes two distinct sides: a satiny bamboo side that cools, and a soft, minky side for warmth,” says tester Emily. “Not only does this add versatility, but it also looks absolutely lovely when tossed over the arm of a couch or spread over a comforter.”

Our only complaint is that it is on the smaller side and ideal for one person, although Lovesac does also make larger blankets.
• Comfrt Dreamer Blanket: This is another one of those fuzzy, super soft blankets. It’s very similar to the Lola Blankets pick and even the Cozy Earth Cuddle Blanket listed above. Our tester did note that it sheds a bit more than the others, but it comes in at a more competitive price point, making it a solid option if you want that plush, cozy feel without spending quite as much.
• Avocado Natural Linen Quilt: If you’re looking for a crisp quilt option, this one is lightweight yet insulating, making it suitable for every season. We love that it uses sustainable, breathable and natural materials. “The quality is top-notch,” Katie says. After washing, it looked just as good as it did straight out of the package.”
• Luxome Ultra Plush Throw: This ultra-plush throw is soft, stylish and totally giftable. The fabric, colors and graceful drape give it a high-end, luxurious look and feel. While we love the dark neutral hues, a few bright color options would make it even better. It’s nearly identical in size and price to the Bearfoot Dreams throw, with an added XL option.
• Saatva Waffle Knit Blanket: Unfortunately, this one goes out of stock frequently on Saatva’s website, but it’s another waffle-knit blanket we love. Made of 100% cotton, it’s easy to style and gets softer with every wash. The lightweight waffle weave is gentle on the skin and won’t cause overheating. If you see it in stock, snag it fast!
• Silk & Snow Alpaca Wool Throw: We loved this beautiful, hypoallergenic throw, but it’s since been discontinued.

What to Look for When Shopping for a Luxury Blanket

After consulting multiple experts on what to look for when shopping for luxury blankets, most agreed that material is the single most important factor to consider before buying.

Barbara Stern, textile and bedding expert at Ottoman Textiles, recommends natural fibers for luxury throws. “Natural cashmere, alpaca or high-quality merino wool is great because it is soft, breathable and durable. Cotton is also luxurious, especially if it is a high-quality cotton such as long staple or Egyptian cotton, though it is a little heavier.”

“Synthetics are another option that checks the box for style and easier care,” says Helena Hendricks, Senior Associate Brand Manager for Fine Linen and Bath. A high-end faux fur blanket, for instance, makes a design statement and is typically easy to wash.
