The elusive fast-food pizza is getting a major discount for one day only, so mark your calendar.

There is perhaps no fast-food item with as much lore as the Taco Bell Mexican pizza. Released in 1985, it was a fan-favorite for decades. But then it was mysteriously and tragically pulled from the menu in 2020.

The decision was met with shock and disappointment. One fan, however, started a Change.org petition to bring it back, and it ended up receiving over 170,000 signatures. Taco Bell finally reintroduced the Mexican pizza in 2022, and according to NPR, the chain actually thanked the man who started the petition.

I wish this was the only example I had of a fan-favorite fast-food item being removed from menus in 2020 and inspiring a Change.org petition. But this also happened with KFC’s potato wedges!

This is proof that collective action works, because both dishes are back safely on their respective menus. And soon, Taco Bell will be selling the Mexican pizza for just $1—so mark your calendar!

When can you buy a $1 Taco Bell Mexican pizza?

The magical day is Tuesday, March 31. According to the Taco Bell Brief (yes, Taco Bell has a Substack), the offer will be valid for the first 30,000 fans who order a Mexican pizza through the mobile app, and there’s a limit of one pizza per person. The Mexican pizza normally retails for about $6.39, so this is a truly incredible deal.

Now, I know you might be thinking that downloading an app is a lot of work to get $5 off a pizza. But let me get on my soapbox about using the Taco Bell app. I abstained from pretty much every fast-food mobile app on principle for a long time because they felt overcomplicated and unnecessary. Then I saw how many deals, coupons and points certain apps offered. I reluctantly downloaded the Taco Bell app, since I eat there enough that it could save me a decent amount of money. I have to say, it’s been worth it so far, and it’ll definitely be worth it on March 31.
