I think that coffee is one of my favorite things in the entire world. The smell and taste are something that I wake up craving every day. In fact, sometimes the last thing I think about before I fall asleep is what kind of coffee I’m going to make for myself in the morning.
I love the smell of freshly brewed coffee so much, that I’ve bought several candles to imitate the scent. And all I’ll say is that not all coffee candles are created equal. Some of them are too strong and overpower my entire room. I’ve also had some that weirdly smelled like stale coffee that had been sitting on the burner for too long. This reminded me of having to scrub the coffee pots out at my restaurant job, so not exactly what anyone wants in a candle.
But Hotel Lobby and Nespresso just dropped what I believe is the best coffee-scented candle that I have ever encountered. Enter: the Nespresso Martini candle.
What is the Nespresso Martini candle?

This candle really does smell like a fancy hotel lobby. Imagine that you checked into your room, got dressed up for the evening and headed down to the lobby bar for a cocktail before heading out. That is the vibe that I’m getting here.
I have a Nespresso Vertuo at home, and I’m obsessed with crafting latte and iced coffees with it. And yes—I have used it to make an espresso martini! I think that espresso martinis are one of the best dessert drinks out there, and this candle does a great job of honoring the creamy and sweetly bitter scent of the cocktail.
What does the Nespresso Martini candle smell like?
There is definitely a coffee scent, but it’s not what hits you first. There’s a sweet, subtly vanilla note upfront that fills the room first when you light it. And I know this sounds a little weird, but I do smell something astringent like vodka here—but it’s not unpleasant. It really just stops the entire candle from coming off as too sweet.
And the coffee notes linger even after I extinguish the candle, which I really love. The entire scent experience is oddly similar to how it feels to drink an espresso martini. Overall, I’m thoroughly impressed by the depth and complexity here.
When will it be available?
The Nespresso Martini candle will be available beginning April 30 on both the Hotel Lobby Candle and Nespresso websites. It will also be in stores at Nespresso boutiques, so if you want to give it a whiff before buying, head to your local Nespresso store. Fair warning that lighting this candle will make you want to shake up a martini, so you might want to stock up that bar cart before you buy one!
