If you’re a fan of spicy food, the 24-Day Fly By Jing Advent calendar is the calendar for you. Not only do you get to try Fly By Jing’s famous flavors (hello, chili crisp), but there are inclusions here that you literally can’t find anywhere else. It’s quite the exclusive calendar for spice lovers!
Some of the highlights of this calendar span spicy instant noodles, Fly by Jing’s original chili crisp and the brand’s signature Sweet & Spicy Zhong sauce. Even if you live with someone who can’t handle spice, there are several milder seasonings. Highlights for me were the brand’s sweet shallot sauce, Sichuan hot honey and a BBQ spice rub.
This version also includes two ornaments, a couple of pairs of chopsticks and a cute little spoon for your chili crisp. While one of my ornaments arrived broken, I chalk this up to a fluke since the other was in perfect condition. We also tested the 12-Day version, and the ornament included in that version was also intact.
While the calendar isn’t cheap at $175, it only includes full-sized jars and packages. I love Fly By Jing’s products (most notably their hot pot broths), and the quality is just as I expect from them. And, considering you get nearly double the products you’d get in one of their gift sets at a similar price point, it’s kind of a steal!

With so much variety, there’s no way to become bored with the daily reveal. To ensure each day was ready to enjoy, Nancy suggests opening that day’s can and putting it in the refrigerator so it would be cold and ready to enjoy later that night.

I had the pleasure of testing the Winter Fox countdown and can confirm the brand’s “no-melt guarantee” holds up. The calendar arrived carefully packaged inside a box packed with ice to keep the chocolates in perfect condition until opening. Deputy Editor Katie Bandurski tested the 2026 countdown and can confirm her box arrived in perfect condition. While the presentation varies slightly year over year, it comes filled with the same delicious cookies you’d expect. As for the cookies? It was hard to hold herself back from eating all 24 treats at once, but she’s happy to share that every single cookie stayed intact through the shipping process—no crumbles in sight.

This savory (and slightly sweet!) calendar is designed like a store cupboard, with contents that bring the excitement of overseas flavors right to the recipient.
Doors open to reveal 24 days of surprises. And surprises they are! You truly never know what you’ll get with this classy calendar. Tester Katie Bandurski was both impressed and surprised each and every day as she revealed treats like truffles, infused olive oils and fancy vinegar.
“I didn’t quite know what to expect with the Oliviers & Co countdown, but it ended up being one of my favorites! The packaging is truly so beautiful, I felt as if I had been transported to France,” says Katie. “There’s never a lack of sweets around the holidays, so I love that this calendar also includes savory (and gourmet) ingredients like olive oil and vinegar. The calendar opens like a book, but you don’t have to open it to smell the delightful fragrances of the contents. Inside, the days are numbered. Flip it over, and the spices are listed along with ingredients and notes on the back. Each offers a helpful descriptor, letting the recipient know what flavors to expect and how to use the spices. The collection includes savory and sweet spices as well as many global flavors.
“The first thing I noticed when the package arrived was how good it smelled. The spices are so fragrant and fresh,” says tester Pamela Bondurant. “The packaging is colorful and festive for the holiday season. Cinnamon sticks, cloves and holly let me know that this truly is a Christmas Advent calendar.”
While we love the spices, we didn’t see them available for repurchase on the website. Sure, that makes the blends in this calendar extra special, but we’d love the ability to repurchase any favorites. Additionally, be careful when snagging this one for someone with allergies, as it contains many common allergens.
That said, it’s a fantastic motivator to use new flavors in your cooking. Pamela suggests using each day’s spice for your evening meal to truly explore what makes each day’s spoils unique.

This calendar sparks so much joy. From the colorful, whimsical details to the funny little quotes and googly eyes, it’s such a cute idea for kids and adults alike. That said, it does reference alcohol at Christmas, so it may not be suitable for all ages. However, my niece and nephews loved my new ornaments so much that I just had to get them one of these silly Advent calendars. There’s just something about googly eyes that transcends generation!
I love that the ornaments are reusable and sturdy, so I can enjoy them year after year. Because of the excellent quality and fun execution, opening each day feels like celebrating Christmas again and again. At only $25, it’s incredibly budget-friendly, making it a great white elephant gift.

In one of the first doors on this Advent calendar, Lakrids by Bulow make a promise: these delightful licorice bites will entice everyone—including folks who purportedly hate licorice. I’d say these tasty candies live up to that promise.
Each window contains two bites of premium licorice, enrobed in a flavored chocolate coating. I never thought lemon or mint lakrids (Danish for “licorice”) could taste so tantalizing. But from the first bite, I was sold. Each day was a new adventure, a chance to indulge in this mysterious world of flavor.
Those who want to explore flavors such as golden oranges, sea buckthorn, milkshake and even double caramel mint won’t be disappointed. While this isn’t the candy Advent calendar everyone would choose, those seeking to expand their horizons and indulge in a luxury experience will not be disappointed by the delightful flavors.
It’s a bit on the pricey side, but very comparable to other premium candy Advent calendars, such as Sugarfina. Bonus: The brand uses real licorice root and molasses, so it’s very much a traditional lakrids calendar boasting premium ingredients.

While I loved most of the snacks, a few weren’t quite to my taste. However, I appreciate the sheer variety and loved the experience of trying new flavors with my husband each day. Note: The flavors might be too adventurous for kids!

Being bibliophiles, we absolutely had to test out this Advent calendar built for book lovers. We weren’t quite sure what to expect with this calendar, which promises “24 miniature books of prompts, trivia, and illustrations.” But this charming calendar quickly won us over thanks to the bright, colorful packaging featuring illustrations of popular books.
Inside, 24 tiny paper books come tucked in sleeves. On the right, an empty, colorful “library” waits to be filled. You also get a little “My Year of Reading” journal, and on Christmas day, a little “Bibliophile” charm. Each of the daily “books” is made of cardboard and is beautifully illustrated. It included a question or two. Think “what was the best book you read this year,” or “what’s your favorite bookstore,” or “what’s your favorite historical novel.”
After you complete each day, you can move the little mini book over to the built-in bookshelf. The mini library is a super display-worthy calendar and a fun conversation starter. It’s also a cute way to work through your yearly reading journey. That said, we do wish the questions got a little deeper and more introspective, though they’re perfect for a light reflection. It’s also worth noting that the text inside the books is quite small, so you may need a magnifying glass to see it!
For fans of both books and miniatures, this is a fun daily activity to look forward to each day leading up to Christmas.

While much pricier than other picks, you can bring it back out year after year—and the treats inside aren’t your average waxy Advent chocolates, either. This Advent calendar for crafters has everything you need to keep calm and stitch on. While we have yet to test this year’s calendar, the past two years have been total hits. The 2025 theme was “Woobles Toy Workshop,” with the imagery featuring a Santa’s Workshop-esque background.
My favorite part of last year’s calendar? Everything—from the boxes the surprises come in to the box itself—is totally reusable for playtime. This year’s boxes are similarly reusable, while the box itself unfolds into a reusable playscape.

Last year, I enjoyed unpacking pickle-flavored pretzels, mayo, lip balm and even a pair of pickle socks. It’s a fun Advent calendar that’s truly unique—I don’t think there’s anything else like it! GiveThemBeer doesn’t do a lot with their packaging, but everything inside was well-packed and damage-free. While it did take a little wiggling to pull out some of the larger items, I really appreciated that each day was clearly marked. I totaled the items at roughly $70, so it’s not quite worth the full $90. That said, much of the charm comes with the exploration and curation, so I’d say it’s still worth the price.

When it comes to high-quality charcuterie, there’s no better cheese than that from Murray’s. The Murray’s Advent calendar is a staple in my home year after year. Bursting with two pounds (!!!) of cheese and a number of delicious accompaniments, Murray’s countdown is delightful.
We can’t wait to get our hands on the 2026 version, but last year’s calendar did not disappoint.
There were a number of cheeses inside, from mild Gouda to sharp, flavorful English cheddar. Each one arrives in a generous serving, making it a fun experience to share with others. The calendar also comes with a cute cheese-centric Christmas print that makes it highly giftable. It’s packed and shipped carefully with ice packs and insulation, arriving at my door cold and fresh each year.
While the cheese itself is amazing, some days only have crackers or other pairings. Because of this, I highly recommend you save some of the previous day’s cheese or wait until the next day to enjoy a pairing. The days with cheese were arguably the best, but finding other delicious accompaniments like jams and crackers broke up the monotony and added a fun pairing element. “The packaging is adorable. The box opens up like a storybook, and the illustrations are so charming,” she says. “It’s so cheery. I especially love the quaintness of the outside illustration. I’d gladly leave this on my kitchen counter or coffee bar throughout the holiday season.”
While it does include a few standard run-of-the-mill flavors, there are also a few surprises sprinkled inside.
“It definitely feels like you’re getting something special and exclusive with this collection,” says Annamarie. “A handful of these pods were remarkably good and flavor-rich. Snoopy fans, this one’s for you. Back for a second year, the Sugarfina x Peanuts countdown is as adorable as it is delicious. The 2026 countdown has a slightly different design than last year’s version, but it’s still packed with delicious, high-end candy treats.
“I’m a big fan of Advent calendars that double as decor,” says tester Katie Bandurski. “It arrived at my door in a brown box with two ice packs (which were fully melted). Still, despite the September heat wave, everything was perfectly intact.”
The calendar itself is shaped like the iconic red doghouse. It gets even better when you open the doors to the calendar and find a pop-up paper Snoopy that unfolds to assume his go-to position. This calendar gets major points for its design—even before you get into the good stuff!
As far as contents go, last year there were 24 Sugarfina sweet treats inside. Most were gummies, including fun holiday shapes (reindeer carrots, holiday trees, snowmen), while others were delightful flavors (peach hearts, sparkling stars, passion fruit). There were a few non-gummy candies as well, like sparkle pops, chocolate biscuits and confetti caramels.
Each drawer comes filled with four small pieces of candy. Our biggest con? Some of the ingredients are less than ideal, given the price point. We were especially disappointed to see food dyes, especially, instead of natural alternatives, given the elevated price point and “luxury feel.” That said, the treats themselves were delicious. The sparkle pops especially stood out to Katie.
“They looked like malted milk balls but had sparkling popping candy inside,” she says. “These were super fun. Each one explodes in your mouth but has a nice chocolaty flavor, too. I like that each little candy is wrapped in its own cellophane bag to keep it fresh, and it includes a tear perforation so it’s easy to open.”

- 24 Days of Baking Cookies: This adorable Advent calendar is such a cute idea. From the thoughtful baking accessories to the two included recipes, each aspect of this Advent calendar feels carefully curated. That said, it’s a bit pricey for what you get.
- 24 Days of Christmas Dog Treats: These treats are dog-approved, but our tester is disappointed that the packaging displayed all of the treats. That took away much of the surprise element for us—and many of the inclusions were duplicates, too.
- Bokksu Advent calendar: From the packaging to the surprises inside, this Advent calendar feels luxurious. The days with edible treats don’t skimp on servings, making them a fun option for sharing! That said, several inclusions weren’t labeled in English, so I almost ate a packet of bath salts. With this calendar, Google Translate is your friend.
- Book Lovers Advent calendar: While the small paper items in this calendar aren’t the most thrilling, this is a really cute and thoughtful gift for readers or writers. Our tester recommends pairing it with something else (like a book or mug) because, on its own, it falls a little short.
- Cometeer 24 Days of Specialty Coffee: While it’s a bit pricey, we’re big fans of Cometeer, so we really enjoyed testing this coffee Advent calendar. Those seeking a fun and offbeat gift for bean lovers, this is it!
- HomeWorx by Slatkin + Co. 12 Days of Christmas Advent calendar: While we enjoy a festive candle, the “calendar” aspect is a bit of a loose interpretation. While the packaging shows numbers, the entire insert comes out, so there are no doors or surprise elements included.
- Log Cabin Advent calendar: “After seeing the packaging online, I really wanted to love this Advent calendar in person. However, the packaging errors and the overall lack of freshness were super disappointing,” says our tester.
- ManVent: Unfortunately, our tester found everything quite dry or overseasoned.
- Onyx Coffee calendar: This Advent calendar’s stunning fold-open design is impressive, and the coffees are whole-bean, fresh and 100% delicious. That said, it’s rather bulky. However, it’s a great option for those who prefer regional blends to Door County’s flavorful options.
- Peanuts Christmas Advent calendar puzzle: While we only included one puzzle Advent calendar in our list this year, this Peanuts option is perfect for fans of Charlie Brown.
- Ryokan Retreat 14 Days of Traditional Japan: While we loved the symbolism and traditional Japanese elements of this Advent calendar, it’s not much more noteworthy than Bokksu.
- Sugiomart 30 Days of Japan Advent calendar: This is a lot like the Bokksu calendar in that there are treats galore, all hailing from Japan. We had serious concerns that this countdown would remain fresh throughout the whole month of December.
