Supergirl's Solar Honey Mustard needs to become a permanent addition to the KFC menu.
Like many people last summer, I went to see Superman in theaters. I’m not a huge superhero movie fan, but I do love a good summer blockbuster moment. I left the theater happy and very excited about the upcoming Supergirl movie—thanks to a small teaser scene at the end that included a cameo from Milly Alcock. She’s the actress who will be playing, well, Supergirl.
Little did I know that my excitement would grow even more when KFC announced that it had new menu additions specifically to celebrate the movie. The KFC Supergirl Meal is bringing some heat to the summer menu. Here’s what to expect.
What is the KFC Supergirl Meal?
The KFC Supergirl Ultimate Meal is its full name, and it’s packed with a ton of flavor and goodies. For starters, you get to choose between a 3-piece tender or an 8-piece nugget box. This comes with a side and a biscuit. So far, so good—but the real super part is up next.
First, the drink. It’s called a Kryptonian Kooler, and it’s basically summer in a cup. The drink is a mixture of Starry, blue raspberry syrup and strawberry boba. The boba is clear, and when it’s in the bright blue drink, it almost has this ambient, glowy effect, which is really cool. It’s so delicious and refreshing that I actually had to remind myself not to drink it too quickly. If you like boba drinks, this alone might be worth a trip to KFC.
Second, the dipping sauces. There are three brand-new sauces available for you to dip all your chicken in. One is Ruthye’s Sweet Chili Revenge, a sweet-and-spicy garlic chili sauce that has a nice kick to it. This sauce was fine, in my opinion. A decent “swicy” option, but it didn’t really wow me. Another new sauce, Lobo’s Wild Ranch, piqued my interest more. It’s a ranch sauce, but somehow even bolder and tangier than what you’d expect from a ranch. The texture is thick, and it really coats the chicken evenly.
But the award goes to Supergirl’s Solar Honey Mustard. I might be biased because honey mustard is my absolute favorite sauce—especially for chicken nuggets. And this one exceeded my already high expectations. It’s incredibly bold and tangy, but still has a hint of sweetness. And the aftertaste is all heat, but not in an overpowering way. And not for nothing, but it’s genuinely bright yellow. It felt like I was eating honey mustard straight out of a comic book. I truly hope that this stays on the menu permanently—it’s one of the best fast-food honey mustards I’ve ever had.
And if you’re a fan of collectibles, then you will be happy to know that this meal also includes a collectible keychain. There are five options, and since the bag is totally opaque, you won’t know which one you get until you open it! That was a fun little bonus. I ended up getting a Supergirl keychain on my first try. My mom got Krypto the dog, which she was very happy about.
When will the KFC Supergirl Meal be available?
It’s available now at participating KFC locations nationwide while supplies last. And if you happen to hit up your local KFC on June 10, you could grab a limited-edition popcorn bucket featuring Krypto the dog. It’s perfect for piling up with chicken or popcorn while you watch Supergirl in theaters on June 26. Those will be available for $29.99 while supplies last, so if you’re a “super” fan, I would head to KFC soon.
