The highest praise I can give a super snackable food is not to buy it. If I avoid it, it means that it disappears too quickly when it’s in my house. That’s why I steer clear of my favorite not-super-healthy finds (sorry, beloved peanut butter–filled, chocolate-coated pretzels), as well as the tasty new treats my coworkers rave about.
I love a good chip, pretzel or sour candy as much as the next person, but I’m always looking for snacks that are tasty and good for me. So, in a recent quest to find healthy snacks at Costco, I picked up Harvest Snaps Green Pea Snacks and fell hard for them. They’re crispy and salty, and they hit the spot in the afternoons (give them to me with ranch avocado yogurt dip, and it’s practically a light lunch). But I quickly found that those crispy peas were just a gateway to other, more craveable flavors and shapes under the Harvest Snaps umbrella, like the new Honey BBQ Crunchy Loops.
These crunchy, baked lentil snacks have a satisfying heartiness. The barbecue seasoning is sweet and spiced just right, making it hard to stop at one handful (thankfully, one serving is about 22 pieces, so a couple of handfuls easily sated my snack craving). And, they’re unique enough to set out for casual get-togethers with friends in the backyard and to enjoy at the beach. That’s why I gave Harvest Snaps Honey BBQ Crunchy Loops a Taste of Home Award.

Lentil Snacks Are Delicious, I Swear
First things first: A snack chip made from red lentils sounds almost too healthy, like something my grade-school friend’s hippie mom would pick up at her local co-op and try to pawn off on us as an after-school treat. So, it’s easy to see why Harvest Snaps call these snacks “crunchy loops,” leaving the lentil part in smaller print.
But those red lentils create a deliciously crunchy bite, making the loops heartier than tortilla chips, crunchier than the pea snacks, and earthier and more savory than popcorn. Because lentils have plenty of fiber and protein, the loops have some nutritional value, too—more than, say, potato chips. They’re certified gluten free, and although they do contain oil, these baked snacks are still lighter than fried ones.
Honey BBQ Crunchy Loops Taste Like a Summer Cookout

I can’t say it’s a fact, but I know it’s true: Barbecue-flavored anything tastes like summer. Whether it’s barbecue ribs coming off the grill or a bag of barbecue potato chips shared at the beach, the sweet, savory, smoky flavor simply tastes better in warmer months.
Harvest Snap Honey BBQ Crunchy Loops taste exactly the way I like my barbecue chips. There’s some spice and kick, but not so much that the seasoning overwhelms the savory lentil loops. As with a good barbecue dry rub, you can taste the sugar, salt, smoked paprika, onion and garlic powder, plus some sweetness from honey powder and a hint of natural smoke flavor. It all works on the baked snack, pairing well with the natural savoriness of red lentils. They’re good on their own, fantastic when dipped in creamy Greek yogurt that’s been blended with one of Trader Joe’s seasoning blends (like onion salt or ranch), and great, of course, alongside a grilled hamburger.
As for the shape, I like the rings. I’m not above adding a bunch to my fingers like jewelry, plucking each one off and popping it into my mouth. Sure, there’s some orange-colored seasoning left behind on my fingers, but we all know that’s the sign of a good snack. You’ll keep reaching into the bag, trust me. It’s one snack we always seem to have in the house now, no matter how many times I try not to buy it.
