When it comes to cleaning the kitchen, I have a very specific set of rules: Load the dishwasher properly. Wipe down the microwave after every use. Don’t forget to clean the Keurig every once in a while. And absolutely, positively, do not let crumbs and liquids fall into the abyss between the stove and the counter!

Nothing disgusts me quite as much as seeing all the leftover food bits and spills that gather in that spot you can’t quite reach with a cloth or vacuum. It gives me the heebie-jeebies! So when I discovered the stove gap covers that are apparently the latest and greatest TikTok kitchen product, I was excited to give them a try. A potential solution to that crusty, cringy crevice? Sign me up! Here’s our honest review of the stove covers that are all over social media, and whether or not they’re worth buying for yourself.

Stove Gap Covers

Don't let food fall into places you can't clean with these silicone stove gap covers.

What are silicone stove gap covers?

If you haven’t yet seen this Amazon cleaning product, a stove gap cover is essentially a strip of silicone designed to keep debris and liquids out of the space between your stove and the edge of your counter. It’s one of those “why didn’t anyone think of this sooner?” products that’s equal parts functional and affordable, running less than $20 for a pack of two.

When I first unpacked mine, I noticed how no-frills they are—no fancy extras here!—yet how sturdy they feel. They slide right into the gap next to your stove on both sides, acting as a barrier to catch any unwanted food or spills.

Why are stove gap covers trending?

Leave it to #CleanTok to bring us such an ingenious product. The electric, induction and gas stove covers have been a hit with TikTok influencers, showing up in hundreds of video. Search “stove counter gap cover” on TikTok and you’ll find a bevy of reels with millions of views among fans. Even famous TikToker Emily Mariko—best known for her recipes and lifestyle content—has given her seal of approval to the buzzy kitchen accessory.

How We Tested It

As the stove gap covers are meant to withstand everyday life, I decided to test them by seeing how well they stood up to a few days of my usual cooking and cleaning. On the morning of the first day, I confidently slid the stove gap fillers into place, pleased to see that they fit snugly between the counter and stove. I then made some scrambled eggs, purposefully allowing some of the runny egg to drip onto the cover as I moved it from the counter to the pan. The cooktop cover acted as an umbrella, allowing the egg to simply run off onto the counter instead of dripping down the crevice. It was easy to wipe off the stove gap cover, as well—just a swipe of a paper towel did the trick!

At dinnertime, I decided to live a little more on the edge. I made chicken-fried steak on the stove—which meant a lot of bread crumbs and a lot of oil splatters. The stove gap covers worked phenomenally for both, keeping both solids and liquids out of the gap. I liked that the covers are non-slip, too, so they stayed firmly in place while I wiped them down without budging or needing adjustment.

The stove gap covers look like a strip of silicone with a fin along the bottom, which sits in the space between your counter and the stove so the cover is flush to the countertop. Available in three sizes—21, 25, and 30 inches—the covers are made of durable, heat-resistant silicone that also claims to be smudge-proof (something I can say has been true in my experience thus far!). They’re flexible enough that they don’t snap easily, yet are strong and sturdy enough that they haven’t bent or warped at all during use and cleaning. The non-slip material also holds them firmly in place so they don’t slide around.

Not only can the stove gap covers withstand high temperatures without melting or being damaged, they’re also dishwasher safe, which is a huge plus. You can just as easily wipe them down after every use or toss them in the dishwasher at the end of the day.

Pros

  • Keeps food and utensils out of stove gap
  • Easy to install and clean
  • Made of heatproof silicone
  • Dishwasher-safe

Cons

  • Only available in black, white and clear

What Other Shoppers Had to Say

Nearly 70,000 Amazon shoppers have reviewed the TikTok find, with many giving these induction, gas or electric stovetop covers high marks.

Verified Amazon reviewer Sally Hansen says, “My new stove replaced a cooktop so counters had to be cut and left an ugly gap. These silicone stove gap covers fit perfectly and made a stressful eyesore vanish! It’s also a cinch to clean and no nasty spills down the side of the stove. High quality problem solver.”

Another verified Amazon reviewer Dawn Nicolich says, “Very useful product that adjusts easily to the size you specifically need. Clean up is also easy to wipe down with ease. Great value for the price. Definitely recommend for a clean seamless look to hide that unsightly gap.”

Deputy Editor Katie Bandurski also owns these life-changing covers. “Seriously, how did I not know about these sooner?!” she says. “I would let crumbs, food debris and sauce splatters accumulate in the graveyard between my range and cupboards for months. Now, I don’t even have to worry about cleaning back there. These stove gap covers are such a game changer.”

Final Verdict

Sure, you can live without stove gap covers, but should you? Not if you’re someone who likes a clean, crumb-free kitchen. Gone are the days of dolefully watching bits of broccoli and smears of dried pasta sauce build up in that space you just can’t reach with a wipe or vacuum! These covers keep your floor—and the sides of your stove and cabinets—spic and span. Just as important, these stove covers blend in well with most stovetops and aren’t an eyesore, so your little kitchen-cleaning hack can stay inconspicuous. Win-win!
