Robert Pattinson has been enjoying a vast and varied career. Sure, he was great as Edward Cullen in the Twilight saga, but real RPatz fans remember his role as Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter movies.

And like his Harry Potter co-star Daniel Radcliffe, he seems determined not to be defined by his star turn in a major young adult movie franchise. He’s put Twilight behind him and moved on to other blockbusters like The Batman. He’ll soon be onscreen in the next Dune sequel, as well as in The Odyssey.

But he’s also done his share of smaller films and indie roles too, like last year’s Die My Love alongside Jennifer Lawrence. And on April 3, he’s joining Zendaya in the black comedy The Drama. In honor of the new movie, I decided to finally try his favorite snack.

What is Robert Pattinson’s favorite snack?

Robert Pattinson has mentioned versions of this snack a few times over the years, leading me to believe that Robert Pattinson must be kind of annoyed by food, seeing it as more of a means to an end than an indulgence. His meals are usually incredibly simple, and he repeats them over and over again.

And he absolutely loves to eat tuna out of a can with hot sauce. In a 2020 interview with GQ, he mentions this, uh, “delicacy,” specifically when talking about his eating habits. “I will barely even mix it up. It’s extraordinarily easy. Like, I eat out of cans and stuff,” he said. “I’ll literally put Tabasco inside a tuna can and just eat it out of the can.”

He also mentioned it in another GQ interview last year. But this time he mentions Cholula instead of Tabasco: “I used to only eat tuna out of a can when I was working—I just put Cholula hot sauce on a can of tuna. Someone saw me doing it once and they were like, that’s absolutely disgusting.”

How does Robert Pattinson’s favorite snack taste?

Listen, I like tuna. I probably make tuna salad once a month, and I always have a stack of cans in my pantry. But the concept of just eating tuna out of the can with nothing but a few dabs of hot sauce felt incredibly unappealing to me. However, I am as dedicated to my craft as Robert Pattinson is to his. I decided to give it a try.

And mind you, I did take some liberties. Since he is not specific about his hot sauce, I decided I would use my favorite—El Yucateco Grilled Pineapple and Habanero hot sauce—in order to impart a bit more flavor to the snack. I opened the can and drained it as best as I possibly could, then fluffed up the tuna a bit with my fork. Then I added about six dashes of hot sauce.

I ate this over the sink, because that just feels like the best place to eat tuna out of a can. I have no idea if this is how or where Robert Pattinson also does it, but sitting at a table to eat tuna out of a can feels even weirder than the snack itself.

Overall, this tastes fine. If you like tuna and hot sauce, this won’t be disgusting or gross to you. I think eating it out of a can is a bit of a mind trick that makes it feel weirder than if you were to put it in a bowl. So that’s exactly what I did after I was halfway done with it. I added more hot sauce and really mixed it in, and the result was … spicy tuna.

I wished that it was a little bit creamier, to be completely honest. Even with a generous amount of hot sauce, I wanted a little more oomph. A little bit of mayo and some chopped scallions would have made this perfect. But then it wouldn’t be Robert Pattinson’s favorite snack, would it?
