The bun is finally getting its moment.
Hot dog buns don’t get much attention. We all have our favorite hot dog brands, of course, our preferred condiments and endless opinions about hot dog toppings, but the bun is usually just…the bun. It’s there to keep everything together without asking for much credit.
Pringles, though, has never been especially interested in blending in. Over the years, the brand has transformed foods like Philly cheesesteaks and beer can chicken into chip flavors, so perhaps it was only a matter of time before it stopped seasoning its snacks and started seasoning something else.
What are Pringles Pop Dog Buns?
To celebrate National Hot Dog Day on July 15, Pringles is releasing limited-edition potato-based hot dog buns inspired by three of its most popular flavors: Sour Cream & Onion, BBQ and Honey Mustard. Each Pop Dog Bun measures 7.5 inches long and comes packaged inside one of the brand’s iconic cans. The seasoning is baked directly into the bun, adding flavor before you even reach for the mustard or relish.
According to Pringles, the idea was inspired by hot dog styles around the world, where bold flavors and creative toppings are part of the experience. And if baking the flavors into the bun isn’t enough, the company also suggests topping your hot dog with actual Pringles for an extra crunch.
Where can you get the Pringles hot dog buns?
You won’t find these in the bread aisle.
Instead, Pringles Pop Dog Buns will be available exclusively through OnceYouPopMarket.com and the brand’s Instagram and Facebook shops during two limited online drops: one on July 8 and another on July 15, while supplies last.
The buns aren’t sold separately, but included free with the purchase of a $6.97 Pringles Three-Pack, which includes Sour Cream & Onion, BBQ and Honey Mustard flavors. You’ll receive one bun in each flavor, each packaged inside its own signature Pringles can.
If previous limited-edition food drops are any indication, these probably won’t stick around for long. Whether you actually need a Sour Cream & Onion hot dog bun is another question entirely—but it’s certainly one way to make the most overlooked part of the hot dog a little more memorable.
