Leftover pizza just got even more interesting.

Pizza night is one of my family’s most beloved communal meals. That said, even though we have them regularly, we sometimes over-order (listen, it happens). But what’s wrong with having leftover pizza at the ready? Nothing. And in fact, it’s even better that you do.

If you’re a foodie like me who loves all kinds of food and kitchen experiments, you’re going to want to take this journey with me. Instead of trying to figure out how to reheat your leftover pizza so it’s as good as yesterday, let’s upgrade it into something completely new: croutons. Probably not what you were expecting, but stay with me.

What is the leftover pizza crouton trick?

Making croutons from leftover pizza is as simple as cutting it into bite-sized pieces and tossing them into your air fryer or oven until they’re crispy. You may have seen the idea floating around already from creators like @itsdoughguy on Instagram.

While an air fryer is quicker, don’t worry; an oven works just as well.

How do you turn pizza into croutons?

Start by preheating your oven or air fryer to 350°F. Next, cut your leftover pizza into bite-sized 1/2-inch pieces. If you’re a kitchen scissors enthusiast like me, that’s the easiest way—but a knife works just as well. After that, toss the pizza pieces into your air fryer and cook them for three to five minutes until they’re golden and crispy. If you’re using an oven, place the pieces on a baking sheet and bake them for five to seven minutes.

When they’re looking crispy and delicious, toss them onto a Caesar salad or eat them by the handful as a crunchy snack. However you serve them them, I have a feeling they’re about to become part of your regular rotation.
