Take a page out of Dolly's (cook)book and enjoy this humble food.

It’s no secret that good food was important to Dolly Parton. I mean, her theme park, Dollywood, has some of the best theme park food around. And while Dolly was particularly proud of what Dollywood serves to the theme park crowds, she was also interested in making her signature southern recipes for friends and family.

In fact, Dolly really enjoyed cooking. She was known to be a consummate host when her nieces and nephews stopped by with their families. They even lovingly called her “Aunt Granny”—and Aunt Granny’s Restaurant is a perennial fave for Dollywood guests.

But if you were wondering if Dolly had a favorite food, then you’re in luck. There is one specific food she liked so much that she ate it every day.

What was Dolly Parton’s favorite food?

Dolly happened to be in excellent company with her preferred food item, because it’s a pretty universal one: potatoes! Who doesn’t love a good potato?

“I have to have something with potatoes,” Parton told Today. “I mean, I’m just one of those people that I have to either have a baked potato, some mashed potatoes, or some french fries, or something to do with potatoes.”

“Something with potatoes” seemed to be her main line of thinking when designing her own line of single-serve frozen food meals. Besides packing them with potatoes, she also made sure to keep them budget-friendly. Dolly came from a very modest upbringing, and accessibility was a big part of her story—whether that’s keeping prices affordable at Dollywood or in the grocery store.

And so the next time I order up some mashed potatoes or french fries, I will eat them happily knowing that Dolly would likely have loved the same potato-forward meal.
