Chips Ahoy! is putting fans’ taste buds to the test with its newest limited-edition release: the mystery cookie. Instead of revealing the flavor on the package, the brand is asking shoppers to taste the cookie, make their best guess, and submit it for a chance to win a $25,000 grand prize.
The mystery extends beyond the cookie itself. Each package features caution tape-inspired graphics and a QR code that takes you directly to the contest page, where you can officially submit your prediction before the flavor is revealed on Halloween. Until then, everyone is left to play snack detective.
My Verdict
My longstanding confidence lasted exactly one bite.
My first thought was cake batter, but the more I ate, the more it reminded me of those soft frosted sugar cookies from the grocery store bakery. The cookie has a vanilla sugar cookie flavor with a thick buttercream sweetness and an almost marshmallow-like finish.
My kids both agreed it tasted a little like Lucky Charms, which only reinforced that marshmallow note for me. By the last bite, I had settled on one description that fit better than anything else: marshmallow buttercream.
Could I be wrong? Absolutely. That’s the fun of a mystery flavor. But if you handed me another one tomorrow and asked what I was tasting, I’d still give you the same answer.
