Ingredients for Bacon Cheeseburger Slider Bake

  • Hawaiian sweet rolls: Mini sweet rolls are soft, tender and perfect for stuffing with a burger filling. They have a slight pineapple flavor, which is really nice with savory foods (think pineapple fried rice). You could also use dinner rolls or brioche rolls.
  • Cheese: This recipe calls for American or cheddar cheese slices. Feel free to switch it up, or use both! You can buy presliced cheese, but I love to ask for freshly sliced cheese at the deli counter.
  • Ground beef: The best ground beef for burgers (including sliders) is an 80% or 70% lean blend. Since we’re cooking the ground beef thoroughly, something with a little more fat is ideal. A 90% lean blend can work here, but it won’t be as flavorful.
  • Onion: The onion cooks with the beef to add a deep, savory flavor.
  • Diced tomatoes: A can of diced tomatoes with garlic and onion is the tastiest option. It brings depth to the burgers, freshening and even slightly sweetening the ground beef mixture.
  • Dijon mustard: There’s spicy, zippy Dijon mustard in the burgers and the glaze. You can use regular mustard, but Dijon has a much more pronounced flavor; it makes a huge difference.
  • Worcestershire sauce: Use this for flavoring the burgers as well as for making the glaze.
  • Bacon: Applewood-smoked bacon is a lovely addition to the flavors already present in this recipe. Cook the bacon beforehand and drain the grease on paper towels. We actually love cooking bacon in water; it yields the most evenly cooked strips!
  • Glaze: The glaze is made from butter, brown sugar, additional Worcestershire sauce and Dijon mustard. Drizzle or brush it across the top of the buns before sprinkling them with sesame seeds and baking them.

Directions

Step 1: Prepare the rolls

Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease two 13×9-inch baking pans. Without separating the rolls, cut each package of rolls horizontally in half, and arrange the bottom halves in baking pans. In each pan, place five slices of cheese on bottom halves of the rolls. Bake them until the cheese is melted, about three to five minutes.

Step 2: Cook the beef

In a large skillet, add the beef and onion together, and cook them over medium heat until the beef is no longer pink and onion is tender, breaking the beef into crumbles as it cooks. This should take six to eight minutes. Drain any excess grease or liquid. Stir in the tomatoes, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Continue to cook until the ingredients are combined, about one to two minutes more.

Step 3: Fill the rolls

Spoon the beef mixture evenly over rolls, then top it with bacon and the remaining cheese. Replace the tops of the rolls.

Step 4: Prepare the glaze

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the butter, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce and mustard. Microwave the mixture, covered, on high until the butter is melted, stirring occasionally. Drizzle or brush the glaze over the rolls, then sprinkle them with sesame seeds. Return the filled and glazed rolls to the oven and bake them, uncovered, until they’re golden brown and heated through, 20 to 25 minutes.

Bacon Cheeseburger Slider Bake Variations

  • Swap the meat: If you prefer a lighter meat, swap ground chicken or turkey for the beef. You can use mushrooms and black beans in place of the burger if you’d prefer veggie burgers.
  • Add toppings: Favorite slider toppings include pickles, thinly sliced lettuce, banana peppers and green peppers. Sliced tomatoes are tasty, too.

How to Store Bacon Cheeseburger Slider Bake

If you have leftover bacon cheeseburger sliders, keep them in an airtight container in the fridge. Another option is to store them tightly wrapped in aluminum foil. They’ll last in the fridge for three to four days.

How do you reheat bacon cheeseburger sliders?

Reheat leftover bacon cheeseburger sliders while they’re still wrapped in aluminum foil by warming them for 15 to 20 minutes in a 350º oven. You can also warm them in a skillet with melted butter—and a lid on top to keep the sliders from becoming too crispy—over low heat.

What’s the difference between sliders and burgers?

Sliders are mini versions of burgers (and other types of hot sandwiches) served on small buns. The name “slider” may come from the way they slide across the griddle or from their small size—they can be eaten so quickly that they basically slide down your throat! If you love little burger sliders and want some more slider ideas, check out our French dip sliders, breakfast sliders and Buffalo chicken sliders.

Can I prepare these sliders in advance?

If you’re prepping for a party, you can definitely make this bacon cheeseburger slider bake ahead of time—just save the assembly for later. The beef mixture can be made and refrigerated ahead of time. Just assemble, glaze and bake them the day of your event. You may need 5 to 10 minutes more baking time to take the chill off.

What can I serve with sliders besides fries?

Fries are great, but there are so many more options for sides that would pair well with these bacon cheeseburger sliders. Some favorites include mac and cheese, creamy mashed potatoes and colorful corn salad.
