Thyme & Table Signature 12-Piece Cookware Set

Pros:

  • Affordable
  • Ideal for low-effort cooking and quick cleanup
  • Great starter set for first kitchens
  • Teflon-free, water-based nonstick ceramic coating
  • Lightweight and easy to handle
  • Stylish design with gold hardware and fluted sides
  • Oven safe up to 446°F
  • Works on all cooktops

Cons:

  • Some off-gassing with first use

  • Pot and pan sizes may be too small for cooking larger meals or serving big families

Thyme & Table—a Walmart-exclusive, budget-friendly brand—delivers big style for small coin, and this 12-piece Signature Cookware Set is proof. The heavy-gauge aluminum and Teflon-free ceramic coating keep things light, slick and dishwasher safe, and the five chic colors with gold hardware make it look far fancier than the price tag suggests. You get the essentials: a 5.5-quart stockpot, 2.5-quart saucepan, 2-quart sauté pan, 10- and 8-inch fry pans, plus three lids that fit across the whole set.

I tested the Thyme & Table set as my everyday cookware for over a month, and the nonstick fry pans quickly became the stars of the show. The 8- and 10-inch skillets cranked out eggs, French toast, grilled sandwiches and pancakes like champs, often without a drop of oil and with zero sticking. After several months, the frying pan is still a reliable go-to for quick meals and with careful use (no metal utensils and no heat above medium), the nonstick surface is still going strong.

Best Dutch Oven

The Pioneer Woman 5-Quart Enamel Cast Iron Dutch Oven

Pros:

  • Hefty, durable construction
  • Oven safe up to 500°F
  • Pretty design
  • Versatile
  • 5-quart capacity is great for soups, roasts, one-pot meals and more

Cons:

  • Rough handling and drops can chip the enamel
  • Not as nonstick as ceramic nonstick pans
  • Takes longer to heat and cool compared to other lightweight cookware

I got my hands on the pumpkin cast-iron Dutch oven from the Pioneer Woman fall collection to serve as a dupe for similar, more expensive gourd-shaped pots from brands like Le Creuset and Staub. The enameled cast-iron construction, burnt-orange hue and gold stem knob brought fall flair to my kitchen for months, making me a little giddy every time I passed it in the kitchen.

While the pumpkin version is currently out of season—and sells out quickly when it is in season—you can get the Pioneer Woman Dutch Oven in a beautiful shade instead. I was impressed by the weight and performance of mine, using it for everything from taco soup to homemade mac and cheese. It proved to be not just pretty but genuinely functional. Oven safe up to 500 degrees, it’s easy to move between the stove and oven. I frequently used the mini version for baking party dips.

As with any enamel-coated cast iron, you’ll want to handle it carefully because drops and bangs can chip the enamel. It’s also heavy and not entirely nonstick, so if you want everyday, low-maintenance cookware or quick cleanup, this may not be the best fit. But if you love soups, stews and cozy one-pot meals, it’s a great option.

Best Sauté Pan

The Pioneer Woman Prairie Signature Sauté Pan

Pros:

  • Durable cast aluminum cookware heats quickly and evenly
  • Nonstick interior
  • Tempered glass lid so you can monitor cooking progress
  • Charming speckled finish

Cons:

  • Not oven safe
  • Not induction compatible

A good sauté pan should handle quick scrambled eggs just as well as rice dishes and flaky fish fillets, and this cast-aluminum option rises to the challenge. The generously sized 6-quart pan features a smooth, nonstick surface that makes cooking and cleanup a breeze, whether you’re searing, sautéing or roasting. The tempered glass lid adds convenience by allowing you to check on your food without lifting it.

The speckled exterior gives it a stylish, versatile look that suits nearly any kitchen. Finished with light wood handles and a coordinating lid knob, the pan brings a warm, rustic touch and fits right in with the rest of The Pioneer Woman cookware line.

Best Cast Iron

Lodge Seasoned Cast Iron Griddle

Pros:

  • High heat retention
  • Oven safe and versatile
  • Nonstick surface
  • Made of all natural ingredients, ensuring safe cooking
  • Built to last a lifetime

Cons:

  • Heavy
  • May not provide optimal results if not properly maintained

Nothing heats up quite like a heavy seasoned cast-iron pan. Made in the USA, the Lodge cast-iron griddle sears like it means it, delivering deep brown crusts and mouth-watering caramelization. A long handle makes it easy to maneuver on your gas grill, and it can move from the stovetop directly into the oven to finish your cooking after searing.

This versatile, pre-seasoned pan has a naturally nonstick surface, providing excellent heat retention and distribution for even, consistent cooking. It’s great for the stove, oven, grill and even a campfire. Here’s how to gently clean a cast-iron skillet.

  • Beautiful by Drew Barrymore Heart Dutch Oven: If you weren’t able to get your hands on the coveted pumpkin Dutch oven from Walmart, check out this similar heart-shaped find. Available in five colors, including pink and purple, it’s perfect for Valentine’s Day and year-round hosting. “This Dutch oven is small but hefty from the cast iron, so it transfers heat very well,” says Shopping Editor Emily Way. “Additionally, the nonstick ceramic interior means that delicious dinners slide right out. No harsh scrubbing required!”
  • OXO Nonstick Frying Pan: The OXO frying pan comes from one of our favorite kitchen brands available at accessible retailers like Walmart. It offers a professional look, sturdy build and an ultra-tough coating for extra scratch resistance. “This looks like a Sur La Table knock-off and performs just as well in our testing,” says Sheri. Like the Sur La Table version, it’s also oven safe up to 600 degrees—hello, braised pork! While it rivals high-end pans, it’s still on the pricier side when it comes to Walmart cookware.

What To Look for When Buying Walmart Cookware

When buying the best cookware set at Walmart for your needs, consider the sort of cooking you want to do and how many people you regularly cook for. If you’re only cooking for one or two people and like preparing simple one-pot meals, two or three quality pieces might be all you need. If you have a large family and enjoy preparing varied menus, a complete set of Walmart cookware could be for you.

Always consider durability when purchasing any type of cookware. You might save money in the short term by buying flimsy pots and pans, but because you’ll need to replace them every few years, they’ll end up costing you more in the long run. When buying Walmart cookware, remember that it’s an investment that should ideally last you decades.

It’s also important to consider materials when browsing Walmart cookware sets:

  • Stainless Steel: Incredibly durable and resistant to rust, stains and scratches, making it a popular choice for everyday cooking. It doesn’t react with acidic foods, so it’s versatile enough for a wide range of recipes, and it works well over high heat. However, because it isn’t naturally nonstick, cooking with stainless steel often requires a bit more oil or butter to prevent sticking.
  • Nonstick: Ideal for low-fat cooking, as it requires minimal oil and is easy to clean, making it a favorite for delicate foods like eggs and fish. However, nonstick coatings can scratch easily, so it’s best to use non-metal utensils. High heat can also wear down the coating over time, so nonstick pans are typically better suited for medium to low-heat cooking.
  • Cast Iron: known for its excellent heat retention, making it perfect for searing, slow-cooking and baking. Over time, a well-seasoned cast-iron pan develops a natural nonstick surface, and it even adds a small amount of dietary iron to food. However, it’s quite heavy and requires seasoning to maintain its quality. It can also rust if it’s not dried and stored properly.
  • Carbon Steel: Lighter than cast iron but with similar heat retention, carbon steel heats up quickly and is great for high-temperature cooking like stir-frying. Like cast iron, it needs seasoning to prevent rust and keep its nonstick properties. It can be sensitive to acidic foods, which might slightly affect flavor, so it’s best used for specific cooking methods that don’t rely heavily on acidic ingredients.
  • Ceramic: A nontoxic option, free from PTFE and PFOA chemicals, and has a naturally nonstick surface that’s easy to cook with. It handles high heat well, making it suitable for a variety of dishes. However, ceramic coatings can wear down over time, which reduces their effectiveness, and they may chip if you’re not careful.
  • Copper: Prized for its excellent heat conductivity, allowing for quick and precise temperature changes. This makes it ideal for delicate cooking techniques, but copper requires regular polishing to maintain its appearance. It’s also reactive with acidic foods, so copper cookware is often lined with another metal, like stainless steel, to prevent flavor changes and discoloration.
  • Aluminum: Lightweight and a good conductor of heat, making it easy to handle and quick to heat up or cool down. However, it’s prone to scratching and denting, so many aluminum pans are anodized or coated for added durability. Uncoated aluminum can react with acidic foods, which can alter flavors, so coated or anodized aluminum is generally preferred.

In general, look for cookware with a thick, heavy base that provides uniform heating. Cast-iron pans truly can’t be beat for their versatility and ability to conduct and retain heat. Plus, their surfaces gradually become nonstick the more you use them, making them a superior alternative to Teflon-coated pans. Stainless or carbon steel pans with aluminum bases are also an excellent choice.

2026 Industry Trends

To learn more about what consumers crave in budget-friendly cookware and kitchen accessories, we consulted Marie DiPalma, Vice President, Commercial Marketing at Made by Gather, the brand behind Beautiful by Drew Barrymore. Here’s what we learned:

  • Consumers want quality products at affordable prices. Good news: You don’t always have to pay more to get more. “At Beautiful by Drew Barrymore, we believe high performance and premium design shouldn’t come with a luxury price tag,” says Marie. “Our vision was to create kitchenware that seamlessly combines both for one ultimate purpose: to bring people together in the kitchen.”
  • They love the marriage of form and function. “Our pieces are designed to be high-performing and visually appealing enough to live on your countertop, making them ideal for everyone from enthusiastic beginners to seasoned cooks who want elevated design in the heart of their home,” says Marie.
  • They desire healthier cooking. Ceramic cookware is popular not just for its looks but also for the healthier cooking made possible by its nontoxic, nonstick surface. “Our cookware is made with EverGood™ Ceramic Nonstick Coating, a nontoxic surface that is free of PTFE, PFOA, and PFOS, delivering reliable, even cooking, easy food release and quick, no-stress cleanup,” says Marie.
  • They love color, color, and more color. Whether they want to take TikTok-worthy photos of their meal prep or just covet a colorful kitchen aesthetic, they can get the cookware they want at Walmart—especially from the Beautiful by Drew Barrymore line. “Drew’s passion for color is at the heart of all design,” says Marie. In fact, Buttercream was added to the colorways to celebrate Drew’s birthday and the reveal of Pantone’s Drew Barrymore Yellow. Then, there’s the Hydrangea print that gets its inspiration from Drew’s own garden. And Kelly Green made its entrance simply because it’s one of Drew’s favorite shades, and she especially loves it as a pop of color in the kitchen. “Each color feels personal and intentional, with Drew playing a hands-on role in the palette to ensure it brings warmth, joy and personality into the kitchen,” she explains.

Yes. In addition to the Walmart-exclusive brands mentioned above, Walmart also carries items from popular, well-known cookware brands like Cuisinart, Lodge and more.

What cookware do most chefs prefer?

Most chefs prefer cookware made of stainless steel, cast iron and sometimes copper for their heat conductivity, durability and versatility. These materials are great for precise temperature control and even heating, making them ideal for professional cooking.

Ceramic and stainless steel cookware are generally considered some of the healthiest options, as they are nontoxic and don’t release chemicals at high temperatures. Cast iron is also a great choice as it naturally fortifies food with iron.
