I’m always on the hunt for buzz-worthy products that actually work. Social media platforms are my go-to for discovering trends, and every now and then, there’s a viral product I can’t pass up. From internet-loved Stanley tumblers to candle warmer lamps, the “TikTok Made Me Buy It” list is endless—and now we can add “TikTok cheese grater” to the pile.
When I came across this Cambom rotary cheese grater on TikTok, I knew I’d struck gold. Viral video after viral video had nothing but praise for the magical Amazon kitchen gadget. It grates a whole block of cheese in seconds! Not to mention the fact that it’s earned more than 29,000 glowing ratings from Amazon customers. But is it too good to be true? Here’s my honest review.
Rotary Cheese Grater
Using a rotary cheese grater saves time and creates perfect, fresh shreds in seconds.
What is the TikTok cheese grater?
This must-have Amazon kitchen tool is a rotary cheese grater that has won the internet’s heart thanks to its unique features. Like all rotary graters, it has a handle that does the heavy lifting (er, grating) for you.
But it doesn’t stop there: This specific rotary grater suctions to the countertop to stay in place while in use, which is an incredible lifesaver for anyone who despises fumbling around with handheld graters. Did we mention it comes with three different attachments? It checks boxes for slicing and shredding.
In case you’re not convinced, Kelly Smith, Sur La Table’s senior buyer of cooks’ tools, notes that there are many reasons why someone should opt for a rotary cheese shredder machine over a box grater.
“Customers come to us regularly to ask if a rotary grater is a better option than a box grater or microplane, and typically your search should depend on personal preferences as well as intended uses,” says Kelly. “Where box graters are simple, easy to clean and controlled, they’re often inefficient and tiresome to use, as well as potentially dangerous. On the other hand, rotary graters are highly efficient, versatile and easy to use.”
Why is it trending?
The tag #CheeseGrater has quickly generated millions of views on TikTok from users sharing about the fun kitchen tool. One highly viewed video from @Rachel_Meaders shows just what sets it apart: It locks in place, boasts three attachments (coarse shredder, fine shredder and slicer) and quite literally grates an entire block of cheese in mere seconds. The fact that it grates exceptionally fast is reason enough to add to cart. Combine that with the fact that it doesn’t budge on the countertop, and it’s an essential kitchen tool.
How We Tested It

To put the TikTok rotary cheese grater to the test, I wanted to first see how well all three attachments performed with cheese. Then, I tested it with other ingredients like potatoes, cucumbers and tofu.
Cheese
With my favorite cheese blocks on deck, it was time to test the coarse shredder attachment. I cut the first cheese block into four long, rectangular pieces, since one giant block was too large to fit down the chute. With one hand on the handle and the other on the food pusher, I started spinning the handle clockwise.
I used the food pusher to guide the cheese down the grater until it was all gone. As expected, perfect strips of shredded cheese started falling out of the chute in seconds. Some cheese got stuck in the chute as more was added to the shredder, but it just took a little extra manpower on my end to keep the process going.
I also tried the slicer and fine shredder attachments with the cheese. The slicer worked okay, except that when cheese got stuck in the chute, it started to shred instead of producing perfect slices. I was able to get a few slices out of it, but the coarse shredder definitely yielded the best results. The fine shredder was a bit too, well, fine for my liking.
Other Foods

Intrigued by the slicer attachment, I wanted to see how well it worked with a cucumber. I was nervous after the cheese slicing that it wouldn’t work as hoped. Turns out, though, it certainly beats using a knife to chop veggies. I used the same clockwise motion to slice the cucumber, using the food pusher as a guide. Much to my (pleasant) surprise, the cucumber was cut into thin slices. The cut was so thin I could never dare achieve the same consistency with a knife.
Lastly, I tested the TikTok cheese grater for cutting potatoes. Just like the cheese, the coarse shredder worked seamlessly with the potatoes—in fact, it worked better. Within seconds, I had a plate of ready-to-fry shredded hash browns. I also tried the slicer tool for potatoes, but the cut was a tad too thin for my liking. I prefer this attachment for achieving a fine cut on veggies instead. The coarse shredder also worked beautifully with tofu for the yummiest shredded tofu tacos.
Cleaning
The cheese grater disassembles beautifully when it’s time to clean. Simply detach the handle from the grating tool by pressing the attached release button. Then, detach the chute by pressing the attached button on the base. Wash with warm, soapy water, and it’s ready for more grating!
Long-Term Testing Update

I’ve meal-prepped with this cheese grater since January 2023. While the additional attachments are useful, I mainly use this cheese grater for shredding cheese. It can also thinly slice vegetables. While I can say it’s one of the best cheese graters, I much prefer using a mandoline for meal-prepping veggies.
I don’t own another cheese grater in my kitchen, nor do I wish I did. The handle on this shredder is incredibly smooth and, dare I say, fun to use. A traditional grater requires significant elbow grease, while this kitchen gadget requires minimal force to get the job done, making it a win-win in my books.
One grievance I have with this product is that cheese often gets stuck in the barrel. I recommend manually pulling the cheese out of the barrel after shredding each cheese block.
As for cleaning, this style of shredder is a bit more annoying to wash. You must remove all the attachments to clean the shredder, but all it takes is a little extra patience.
Additional Testing: 5-Blade Cheese Grater

For more variety, we also tried the Cambom 5-blade rotary cheese grater. This model works exactly like the original, but it comes with five grating blades instead of three. In addition to the slicing, coarse shredding and fine shredding blades, you also get an extra-fine shredding and crushing blade.
Deputy Editor Katie Bandurski tested this grater, which landed itself a permanent spot in her home kitchen. “I love the variety,” Katie says. “Whether I want extra-fine zucchini shreds to disappear into zucchini brownies or a chunky pepper jack to sprinkle atop tacos, this grater has a blade that gets the job done.”
Like Madi, Katie was impressed at the speed, safety and accuracy of the rotary grater. However, Katie found that the locking mechanism left a lot to be desired. “I prep a lot of food on my wood kitchen table or extra-large butcher block cutting board, and the lock did not engage at all,” Katie says. “I found it only compatible for suctioning onto my countertop.”
Still, the rotary cheese grater performed as intended across a number of food tests. Katie shredded an assortment of cheeses and veggies, as well as ice. “I will never go back to a manual grater again,” Katie explains. “The rotary style saves so much time!”
It’s been over a year since Katie first tried the grater, and she still reaches for it often. “This product continues to be a game-changer when shredding cheese and veggies, she says. “To date, I’ve used it for blocks of cheese, carrots, zucchini and more. It takes what was once a long, tedious task and churns through it in mere seconds. It does take up more space than a box grater, but if you are a freshly shredded cheese household (it just melts better!), a rotary grater is non-negotiable. I’ve also been using it consistently for well over a year and haven’t noticed the blades dulling or any parts wearing out.”
Pros
- Grates or shreds ingredients in seconds
- Protects fingers from sharp blades
- Easy and fun to use
- Locks in place on countertop
- Three to five attachments
- Variety of color options
Cons
- Slice attachment works best with vegetables, not cheese
- Ingredients can get stuck in the chute
What Other Shoppers Had to Say
I’m not the only who thinks this Amazon prep tool is one of the best rotary cheese graters around. It has garnered over 29,000 reviews. Here’s what others love about the product:
Patty wasn’t shy about her fandom in her verified Amazon review. “I know this will sound pretty weird, but I just love this cheese shredder so much that I’m just shredding cheese just to use the machine. It works amazing. I don’t know why I waited so long,” she writes.
“Shreds cheese so fast. I shredded veggies too with it. The suction part isn’t very strong, but that’s not a deal breaker to me. It’s easy to use and easy to clean too,” writes SasaMama, another verified Amazon reviewer.
The suction part is also noted by Robin Nielson, but it’s clearly not a dealbreaker: “Can I add more stars, please?! This is the best thing I have ever purchased for my kitchen. Easy to use. Easy to clean. So QUICK to grate. My arthritis has gotten worse, and using the hand grater was getting so difficult. This thing has saved my hands and lets me continue to make the dishes I love to make. BEST BUY EVER. (The suction is a little iffy, but wet the bottom on a clean surface, and it’s good to go.) :)”
Product Comparison
Recently, the new viral Susteas rotary grater has made the rounds on TikTok. Unlike the original option we tested, this new version uses a range of flat inserts rather than cylindrical blades. In addition to the shredding disks, this version also boasts a wavy blade and a julienne blade for easy meal prep.

Producer Linda Cheung has been testing this model for several weeks. “Overall love this cheese grater,” says Linda. “It’s tall enough to be able to fit large bowls under it. The suction cup on the bottom of the grater is very strong and holds on the counter while I’m grating anything. It comes with five different blade attachments so I can shred cheese, julienne carrots, make ridged potato chips and so much more. One of my favorite things about it is not having to worry about slicing my finger because my fingers don’t go anywhere near the blades. It’s also easy to disassemble and clean.”
Linda also owns the original cheese grater. When it comes to how they compare, she has a few thoughts. “The old cheese grater only came with three different blade attachments,” she says. “It’s a lot smaller, so there wasn’t much room for a larger bowl if I needed to shred large amounts of cheese for a mac ‘n’ cheese recipe.”
Final Verdict

Because freshly shredded cheese is better, I love how well this cheese grater with a rotary function takes on the task. I had way too much fun the first time I used it and was shocked at how beautifully it shredded ingredients. But I will say, the second time I used it, I couldn’t get it to work. This was only due to human error, though, as I was turning the handle counterclockwise away from my body. Then I realized it needed to be turned toward my body (aka clockwise), and it started working again. Besides that tiny brain fart, I’ve found the cheese grinder to be way easier to use than any box grater. I’m never buying shredded cheese again!
Where To Buy the TikTok Cheese Grater
Rotary Cheese Grater
Using a rotary cheese grater saves time and creates perfect, fresh shreds in seconds.
The TikTok cheese grater is available on Amazon. The price averages around $30 for the 3-blade model and $36 for the 5-blade. Considering it grates a block of cheese in seconds and boasts functions for slicing and shredding veggies, the all-in-one tool basically pays for itself in terms of how much time you save.
I actually look forward to ingredient prep thanks to this genius gadget—and I guarantee you will, too. It earns my TikTok-worthy stamp of approval as one of the best graters for cheese and vegetables.
FAQ
Do rotary cheese graters work?
Yes! This type of grater is more efficient and safer, too. Unlike traditional graters, it prevents fingers from scraping against blades. They also require less elbow grease to grate cheese or veggies. Just rotate the handle and voila! Shredded cheese in seconds.
How do I clean a rotary cheese grater?
Detach the handle from the grating tool using the release button. Then, remove the chute by pressing the attached button on the base. Once disassembled, wash the pieces with warm, soapy water and dry them thoroughly before reassembling them.
Are rotary graters good for hard cheeses?
Yes, they’re excellent on hard cheeses, but you may not be able to use the largest grater size. If you’re grating a piece of parmesan, for example, you’ll likely want to use one of the finer graters for best results.
