A new data analysis from Betway Insider looked at where that energy shows up most, measuring everything from the number of bakeries and dessert shops to how often people are searching for sweets online. The result is a top 10 list of cities where sugar is just part of the routine.
Which American cities are the sweetest?
Miami lands at the top spot, with a near-perfect score driven by sheer availability. The city packs in more than a hundred bakeries, dozens of ice cream shops and a long list of dedicated dessert spots—all to serve a relatively small population. You don’t have to go looking for something sweet; it’s already on the way.
Atlanta comes in just behind Miami, and its placement has less to do with storefronts and more to do with appetite. It leads the list in online mentions of candy, chocolate and doughnuts by a wide margin. For a city that takes its comfort food seriously, this tracks.
Las Vegas takes third position, which feels almost inevitable. The city’s dessert scene leans big and theatrical, with towering slices of cake and elaborate sundaes. It feels like the options are built to catch your eye before you’ve even decided if you want dessert.
Further down, the list settles into a mix of cities with strong food cultures and plenty of access to sweets. San Francisco and Boston round out the top five, thanks to their deep benches of bakeries and dessert shops. I lived in San Francisco for more than a decade, so I can personally vouch for the fact that a “quick walk” always had a way of ending in a pastry. New Orleans, St. Louis, Austin, Seattle and Chicago fill out the rest of the top 10.
The specifics vary, but the pattern is clear. In the right city, dessert isn’t reserved for special occasions; it’s built right into your day.
