Pickle lovers, rejoice! This is going to be the smoothie of the summer.
You’ve probably noticed that pickles seem to be in everything right now. You can’t turn a grocery aisle corner without running into a brand-new pickle snack collab. Now, if I had to choose a favorite pickle brand, it’s no doubt the Boston-based Grillo’s. With its cool packaging approach and spot-on marketing, it’s like the it girl of the pickle world. I tried the Grillo’s pickle pizza last year, and I couldn’t get enough of it.
You must be thinking, well, what else could the brand possibly do? There are only so many foods you can add pickles to, right? It turns out that the pickle brand is partnering with Smoothie King for another shock-factor drink. If you remember the ketchup smoothie from last year, you know what I mean.
What is the new Smoothie King pickle smoothie?
Smoothie King and Grillo’s Pickles came together to create a uniquely tangy smoothie that combines real Grillo’s Pickles, organic kale, bananas and coconut water for a hydrating, electrolyte-packed flavor experience. If you were on the lookout for your new favorite summer pick-me-up, I think you just found it.
How does it taste?
It tastes just like frozen, thick pickle juice. I’m not kidding. I was immediately shocked by how substantial the Grillo’s Pickles taste really was. And, if you’re a pickle person, I cannot recommend this smoothie enough. It’s got the aura of pickle juice without the excessive salt—the coconut water and bananas really cut through. And while it has a good amount of tang, it’s not so savory that it’s gross. All the flavors blend together in a sweet, summer amalgamation that I could not have wished up in my wildest dreams.
That being said, if you’re inherently not a pickle person, this isn’t going to make you magically love pickles. It literally does taste like I’m just sucking up thick pickle juice. And I drink pickle juice by itself already. But if you’re feeling a little adventurous, you should take the chance.
