Why put cereal in milk when you can put it in ice cream?

Dairy Queen must have a royal set of spies following me everywhere I go because the chain just keeps serving up desserts I can’t get enough of. The Queen has been around for almost 90 years, and I’ve been a customer since I was a kid. It’d be against my Illinoisan blood if I didn’t go regularly! My local DQ will be seeing me all spring now that it’s serving up “breakfast.”

Even though we’re still not quite over the Strawberry Angel Food Cake Blizzard, that doesn’t mean we’re not going to jump all over Dairy Queen’s latest menu drop. If you’re a lover of cereals and sweets to start your day, this menu was curated specifically for you (and me, too).

What are the new desserts at Dairy Queen?

The three major additions are:

  • Choco Frosted Donut Blizzard: Classic chocolate frosted doughnut pieces mixed with colorful rainbow sprinkles in DQ’s famous vanilla soft serve.
  • Fruity Pebbles Shake: Crunchy Fruity Pebbles cereal blended with vanilla soft serve and milk, with whipped topping to finish it off.
  • Cinnamon Toast Crunch Dipped Cone: Creamy vanilla soft serve twisted and dipped in a sweet cinnamon cereal coating, complete with crunchy cereal bits and topped with Cinnadust.

The inclusion of such iconic cereals was a massive pull for me—Cinnamon Toast Crunch is my favorite cereal of all time, and I’ll never turn down an ice cream cone opportunity. Not only that, but I also love a fruit-centric shake, so the Fruity Pebbles shake has been calling to me in my sleep.

Here’s What I Thought

I tried the Choco Frosted Donut Blizzard first, as it was objectively the most appealing. The rainbow sprinkles and vanilla soft serve felt like a saccharine dream, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the chocolate doughnut pieces. They tasted more like artificial fudge, and I would have loved for about 75% more pieces mixed in. This Blizzard was enjoyable enough, but not my fave.

I went for the Cinnamon Toast Crunch dipped cone next, partly because it’s my favorite flavor and partly because it was threatening to melt the fastest. The coating was immediately recognizable and delicious. The Cinnadust brought me back to childhood in a blink. It was like eating a hearty version of cinnamon cereal milk. I wish I had gotten a bigger size!

Now for the Fruity Pebbles shake. I was every bit as pleased with it as I had expected to be. If you’ve had Fruity Pebbles before, you already know exactly what this shake tasted like. It’s creamy, it’s fluffy, it’s full of fruity flavor. The vanilla soft serve is a perfect backdrop. I can usually only take so much sugar at a time, but I’ll make an exception for this shake.

How long will the breakfast collection be at Dairy Queen?

This new menu is available for a limited time at participating Dairy Queen locations while supplies last, so don’t wait. I have a feeling these treats will go fast as the weather starts to warm. As for me, I’ll be ordering the Fruity Pebbles shake as many times as I can.
