Light up your Fourth of July spread with this red, white and blue puppy chow.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup white candy melts
- 1/2 cup red candy melts
- 1/2 cup blue candy melts
- 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter, divided
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
- 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract, divided
- 9 cups Rice Chex, divided
- 1-1/2 cups confectioners' sugar, divided
Directions
- Place each candy melt color into individual large microwave-safe bowls. To each bowl, add 1/4 cup peanut butter and 1 tablespoon butter.
- Working with one bowl at a time, microwave 1 minute at 50-percent power; stir until smooth. If not fully melted, microwave in 15-20 second increments at 50-percent power, stirring in between, until smooth. Stir 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract into each bowl.
- Divide the cereal equally into each bowl. Gently fold the cereal into the mixture until fully coated.
- Place 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar into a gallon-size zip-top bag. Add one of the cereal mixtures; seal the top. Gently shake and turn until the cereal is fully coated and no wet spots remain. Spread the puppy chow onto a 15x10x1-in. baking sheet. Repeat this step with the remaining two cereal colors.
- Combine the puppy chow into one large serving bowl or storage container.
