Silky, creamy and lightly sweet haupia is a traditional Hawaiian dessert made for coconut lovers.

Ingredients

  • 5 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 can coconut milk (13.66 ounces)
  • 2 tablespoons water

Directions

  1. In a small heavy saucepan, mix cornstarch, sugar and salt. Whisk in milk and water. Cook and stir over low heat until very thick, 8-10 minutes. Remove from heat; pour into a lightly greased 1.5 qt. glass loaf pan.
  2. Cool to room temperature; refrigerate until set, 8 hours or overnight.
  3. Carefully remove from pan. Cut into 1-in. pieces to serve.
