I LOVE turmeric. I often make turmeric granola, and wanted to create a cookie as a spin-off to the flavors in my granola. I infused a simple sugar cookie with a ton of warm spices for flavor. —Lynne Ogg, Cedar, Minnesota
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar, plus additional for rolling
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1-1/2 teaspoons ground turmeric
- 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup golden raisins
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350°. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. In another bowl, whisk flour, turmeric, cinnamon, baking powder, salt, cardamom and nutmeg; gradually beat into creamed mixture. Fold in golden raisins.
- Shape dough into 1-in. balls; roll in sugar. Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets.
- Bake until light brown, 10-12 minutes. Remove from pans to wire racks to cool.
