Total Time Prep: 10 min. Cook: 5 min. + chilling
Yield 6 servings
This caramel apple bark has all the luxurious flavors of a gourmet caramel apple without the hefty price tag.

Ingredients

  • 1 small Granny Smith apple, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 10 ounces dark baking chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 cup miniature pretzels, broken into pieces
  • 4 ounces soft caramels, unwrapped
  • 2 tablespoons water or heavy whipping cream
  • Pinch flaky sea salt, optional

Directions

  1. Line a 15x10x1-in. rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper; set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, toss together apple and lemon juice. When ready to use, drain; discard lemon juice.
  3. In a large glass measuring cup, microwave chocolate in 30-second increments at 50-percent power until smooth, stirring in between. Spread all but 1 ounce of melted chocolate on the parchment paper into a thin, even layer. Arrange apple and pretzel pieces over chocolate.
  4. Place caramel and water in a small glass measuring cup. Microwave in 30-second intervals at 50-percent power until smooth, stirring in between; drizzle over bark. Drizzle with the remaining 1 ounce melted chocolate. Sprinkle lightly with flaky sea salt.
  5. Chill until set, 15-20 minutes. Break into pieces to serve.

This caramel apple bark is unusual, but perfectly on-theme for fall! It's basically a deconstructed caramel apple, with a welcome addition of pretzels and chocolate. —Lauren Habermehl, Pewaukee, Wisconsin
